Match: Bayern Munich v Bayer Leverkusen
When: Wednesday, 05 March 2025, 22:00
Where: Allianz Arena

Bayern Munich Form

Bayern sit eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga with one league defeat all season. Their last 15 matches have seen just one defeat. A shock 3-0 defeat at Feyenoord was followed by five straight wins, including a 2-1 win away at Celtic in their playoff first leg.

A 0-0 draw at Bayer Leverkusen saw Die Roten outshot 15-2 in a poor display. A 1-1 home draw with Celtic sealed passage into the Champions League round of 16 thanks to a last-minute equaliser. Successive league wins have followed, 4-0 vs Eintracht Frankfurt and 3-1 at Stuttgart.

Bayern Munich Team News

Left back Alphonso Davies picked up a knock in the last match and is a doubt for this one. Joshua Kimmich is ruled out in midfield. Aleksandar Pavlovic and Sacha Boey are set to return after suffering with illness.

Eric Dier is competing with Dayot Upamecano for a place in the starting XI in central defence. Leon Goretzka and Konrad Laimer are set to start in midfield and at right back respectively.

Bayern Munich Motivation

Bayern will play on the front foot and try to win this first leg. They have struggled in recent away matches vs Leverkusen so a first leg advantage is needed.

Vincent Kompany’s side played for a point in the last meeting but won’t settle for a draw here.

Bayer Leverkusen Form

After being thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool back in November, Leverkusen have lost just once in 22 matches. Following 12 straight wins, they were beaten 2-1 away by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Points were dropped in three of their next four league matches to lose ground on Bayern Munich.

A 3-2 DFB Pokal win over FC Cologne was followed by two damaging 0-0 Bundesliga draws, at Wolfsburg and at home to Bayern despite outshooting their opponents 15-2. Two league wins have followed to restore confidence. They 2-0 at Holstein Kiel and 4-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bayer Leverkusen Team News

Xabi Alonso is unlikely to have defender Edmond Tapsoba available for this match. Winger Martin Terrier is out for the rest of the season and young fullback Jeanuel Belocian is absent too.

Mario Hermoso is set to cover in central defence and Patrick Schick is expected to play up front in preference to Victor Boniface. Another option is to use a false nine and no recognised striker.

Bayer Leverkusen Motivation

Leverkusen’s approach is hard to predict. They parked the bus on a recent away trip to face Bayern and have dominated recent tussles too.

They could fight for a clean sheet in this one and look to win the home leg in order to progress.
