Banyana Banyana World Class Squad

Banyana Banyana have not just qualified for the semi-finals of Women’s African Cup of Nations 2022, they have also qualified for the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand respectively.

The South African Women’s team is with no doubt one of the best soccer teams on the African Continent, and in the world based on their competence and their dominance on the field of play.

Here we highlight some of the players in the Banyana squad:

Tembi Kgatlana

Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana is a CAF Women footballer of the year and has a CAF goal of the year accolade. She played locally firefly before going overseas in February of 2018 to join Houston Dash, before moving to Beijing BG Phoenix, Benfica, Eibar, Atletico Madrid, and currently playing in the United States for Racing Louisville.

Thembi has 62 caps and 22 goals for Banyana Banyana, she is unfortunately ruled out of the Women’s African Cup of Nations due to an injury.

Jermaine Seoposenwe

Jermaine scored one and the only goal that took Banyana Banyana to the WAFCON semi-finals and 2023 Women’s FIFA World Cup. She has 78 caps and 16 goals under her bet for the national women’s team.

She started her football career in Samford, where she also studied, before moving to Gintra Universitetas, Real Betis, and currently she is playing for SC Braga in Portugal.

Refiloe Jane

Refiloe Jane is one of the senior players in the current Banyana Banyana squad, having played over 100 games for the team since 2012. She also holds a leadership and captaincy role in the absence of Janine van Wyk.

Fifi has played for Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, Vaal and Tshwane University of Technology, Canberra United in Australia, and is currently playing for AC Milan.

Linda Motlhalo

Linda made her Banyana Banyana debut at the age of only 17 years of age, as of to date she has over 50 caps and 16 goals for South Africa. She has captured many with her flair and skill on and off the ball.

The skilful jersey number 10 moved overseas to Houston Dash in the United States at the age of 20 years in 2018, before moving to Beijing BG Phoenix in China in 2019, and she is currently making her trade in Sweden for Djurgardens.

Noko Matlou

Noko Matlou is a Banyana Banyana versatile veteran, she can play as a forward and as a defender. Matlou has represented South Africa for over 15 years, making her the second most capped player in Banyana Banyana history.

Matlou became the first South African to be named African Women’s Footballer of the Year by CAF, and she is currently making her trade in Spain for SD Eibar.
