The first Africa Cup of Nations semi-final will pit Senegal, the pre-tournament favourites, against surprise package Burkina Faso. The action will kick off at 21:00 South African time on Wednesday in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Egypt v Morocco
The Stallions beat an out-of-form Tunisia 1-0 in the quarter-finals despite having only 39% possession in the match. Dango Ouattara, who scored the winning goal, subsequently picked up a red card and has thus been suspended for the semi-final against Senegal.
Burkina Faso managed to preserve their lead, but their performances at the Africa Cup of Nations have not reached the required level to go toe-to-toe with the Lions of Teranga.
As predicted, Senegal have improved throughout the course of the tournament. Aliou Cissé’s side struggled for goals at first, but strikes from Famara Diedhiou, Cheikhou Kouyaté and Ismaïla Sarr saw them sweep Equatorial Guinea aside 3-1 in the quarter-finals.
Admittedly, Senegal have still not yet hit top gear. However, with Watford’s Sarr back in the team to complement an already star-studded lineup, they are perfectly poised to peak at the right time.
Burkina Faso have gone deeper in the tournament than expected, but it will take a minor miracle for them to progress further still.
A Senegal win is paying 0.86 at the time of writing, which represents tremendous value for money on the most likely outcome.
