AFCON 2021 Betting Tips: 14 January 2022

There are four matches to choose from in Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations action, with favourites Senegal among the teams in action as they face Guinea.

Malawi and Zimbabwe will go head-to-head in the other Group B game of the day, while Morocco, Comoros, Ghana and Gabon will all play in Group C.

Senegal v Guinea

Senegal are favourites to win the Africa Cup of Nations tournament despite leaving their shooting boots at home in a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe.

Probably partially due to limited preparation time, many of the big teams have suffered from early jitters, but the Lions of Teranga are likely to settle down in their second game.

With a Senegal win over Guinea currently paying 1.74, there is value in backing this outcome. Aliou Cissé’s star-studded squad featuring many of the best players in the world is unlikely to come up short in this game.

Malawi v Zimbabwe

Malawi lost their opening AFCON clash to Guinea, while Zimbabwe went down to the Lions of Teranga. However, Zimbabwe’s valiant effort against Senegal combined with them having a solid squad on paper means the Warriors can fancy their chances in this match.

Malawi went into their first game of the tournament off the back of six positive COVID-19 tests, including striker Gabadinho Mhango, and it is unlikely that they will have all their best players available for the Warriors encounter.

A low-scoring Zimbabwe win is the likely result in this encounter.

Morocco v Comoros

Morocco began their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 1-0 win over Ghana, while Comoros went down by the same scoreline to Gabon.

There are 104 places in the FIFA World Rankings separating these teams, and despite the low-scoring start to the tournament, it will be a surprise if Morocco do not win comfortably.

Gabon v Ghana

Ghana’s form has been poor in recent months, so now is not the ideal time to bet on them winning even though they are a better team on paper than Gabon.

What has proved a reliable bet in recent matches involving the Black Stars is a limited number of goals. There have been either one or none in five of their last seven competitive fixtures. 

This means that Under 1.5 Goals is a reasonable bet against Gabon in this low-scoring tournament particularly.
