Tricky as they may be on their best days, Ethiopia were comprehensively outplayed by Cape Verde in their 1-0 defeat, while Cameroon were the better side in a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso.

On home soil, it is unlikely that the Indomitable Lions will face many problems. Ethiopia can be a tough place to travel, but they lost all of their away games in qualifying and cannot be expected to pose much of a challenge.

Burkina Faso showed against Cameroon that they can stand up to even the best teams in Africa, so they would ordinarily be viewed as the likely winners against Cape Verde, but star player Bertrand Traoré has tested positive for COVID-19, which complicates matters.

Cape Verde have proven over the years that they can stand up to Africa’s established sides, as Bafana Bafana found out the hard way. Coming off the back of a 1-0 win over Ethiopia, they have every chance of securing a draw in this fixture given the circumstances.
