There have been several impressive teams in the first round of group stages. Banyana Banyana scored first against 3rd-ranked Sweden, Japan, and Germany trashed African teams (Zambia and Morocco).

5: Germany

Currently, the German Woman’s national team rank second in the world rankings and had an incredible start to the tournament, trashing Morroco 6-0 in the opening match of Group H. The Swedish side showed experience and character in that match, after conceding first they controlled the game and ended up winning 2-1 in the dying minutes of the game. In their preparation for the World Cup, they hammered Georgia 15-0 away from home, the Swedish side is ranking 3rd in the world rankings.

Japan have already qualified for the last sixteen, after their win against Costa Rica yesterday. The Japanese side were the World champions in 2011 and runners-up in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup edition. They were unbeaten from 2022, until 2023 when they were playing Brazil in the SheBelieves Cup.

The defending Champions have won the FIFA Women’s World Cup four times, making them the most successful team and the favourites to win the tournament. USA have proven timelessly why they are the best in the world women’s football, having been dominant for close to a decade now. Their last defeat was five years ago, on the 19th of January 2019, beaten 3-1 by France away from home.
