2022/23 PSL Awards Winners

Mamelodi Sundowns were the big winners in the 2022/23 PSL Awards, Teboho Mokoena being the winner after bagging two big accolades at the back of an impressive season. The Bethlehem-born playmaker prevailed against teammate and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and Orlando Pirates’ Monnapule Saleng to win the coveted award.

Coach, Rhulani Mokwena, who ushered Downs into a record-breaking six successive league title, was named the PSL Coach of the Season, beating Pirates’ Jose Riveiro and SuperSport United’s mentor Gavin Hunt. Riveiro won two trophies for the Sea Robbers this season, while Hunt guided SuperSport United to a third-place finish in the Log.

9. PSL Goalkeeper of the Season – Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns)

The Bafana Bafana number one was on undeniable form this season and cemented his place in Sundown’s starting lineup. The shot-stopper broke Moeneeb Josephs’ long-standing record of 17 clean sheets as he picked bagged 18 this season.

8. PSL Defender of the Season – Khuliso Mudau (Mamelodi Sundowns)

Mudau has been one of the impressive players to watch this season, he has featured in Sundowns’ backline more than any other defender.

7. PSL Midfielder of the Season – Teboho Mokoena (Mamelodi Sundowns)

Mokoena was the main man in Sundowns’ midfield, deservingly named the best midfielder in the league this season, beating Monnapule Saleng and teammate Themba Zwane.

6. PSL Young Player of the Season – Cassius Mailula (Mamelodi Sundowns)

Young Cassius fitted like a glove in Down’s setup. He scored nine goals, three away from the Golden Boot won by teammate Peter Shalulie and Cape Town City’s Khanyiso Mayo.

5. PSL Goal of the Season – Yusurf Maart (Kaizer Chiefs)

Yusurf Maart’s cracker in the Soweto derby against the Buccaneers stood above the rest. He netted in a win over Pirates, scoring from the center-line.

4. PSL Coach of the Season – Rhulani Mokwena

After taking over in October last year from Manqoba Mngqithi, Mokwena still has not tasted defeat at the helm of Sundowns, with 22 victories and 10 draws, led the side to a sixth successive league title.

3. PSL Players’ Player of the Season – Monnapule Saleng (Orlando Pirates)

Saleng was unstoppable this season, it comes as no surprise his peers voted for him to win this award.

2. PSL Top Goalscorer – Peter Shalulile (Mamelodi Sundowns) And Khanyisa MayO (Cape Town City)

Shalulile bagged his third consecutive Golden Boot award, scoring 12 goals this season after suffering a muscular injury, a tally he shares with Cape Town City’s Mayo.

1. PSL Footballer of the Season – Teboho Mokoena (Mamelodi Sundowns)

Mokoena was an important player for Sundowns this season, not only doing the dirty job in the midfield but also scoring important goals for the Brazilians. His hard work paid off as he was named the best player overall in the PSL this season.
