European Football Predictions

It’s that time of the week again where we run through a selection of the most exciting matches from Europe’s top leagues taking place this weekend and offer our best bets and value picks.

Leeds United v Tottenham (Saturday)

Antonio Conte will be looking to guide his team a step closer to the top four on Saturday as Tottenham head to Elland Road to take on Leeds United. Spurs come into this clash high on confidence after beating Manchester City 3-2 in their own backyard thanks to Harry Kane’s stoppage-time goal. Leeds, meanwhile, suffered a second straight loss and a third defeat in four against Manchester United, losing 4-2 at home.

Suggested bet: Tottenham to win

Value bet: Tottenham to win and both teams to score

Brentford v Newcastle (Saturday)

Newcastle travel to the Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday to take on Thomas Frank’s side in the Premier League. The hosts have struggled to maintain their early season form and are now winless in eight matches with seven defeats. The visitors, meanwhile, have found their rhythm under Eddie Howe, winning three games on the spin before last week’s draw at West Ham. With both sides looking to further distance themselves from the bottom three, we could have an exciting game on our hands.

Suggested bet: Both teams to score

Value bet: Newcastle to win

Villarreal v Espanyol (Sunday)

Unai Emery’s Villarreal side host Espanyol in La Liga on Sunday looking to keep up the pressure on their rivals for a top-four place. The Yellow Submarine are unbeaten in four matches in the Spanish top flight with three wins, including a 4-1 victory at Granada last weekend. The visitors, on the other hand, are still looking for their first win of 2022. However, back-to-back draws with Barcelona and Sevilla will provide some confidence.

Suggested bet: Villarreal to win

Value bet: Villarreal to win and both teams to score

Barcelona v Athletic Bilbao (Sunday)

Facing Barcelona on their home turf is daunting for any team in world football, however, Athletic Bilbao will be full of confidence heading to the Camp Nou after their thumping 4-0 victory over local rivals Real Sociedad. Barca are unbeaten in nine La Liga games and look to secure a third straight win at home following victories over Elche and Atletico Madrid. While Xavi’s side netted seven goals in those games, both Elche and Atleti managed to score twice.

Suggested bet: Both teams to score

Value bet: Barcelona to win and both teams to score

Sparta v PSV (Sunday)

Second-placed PSV Eindhoven travel to strugglers Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday looking to continue their fine form as they aim to keep pressure on table-toppers Ajax. Roger Schmidt’s men are riding a four-game winning streak away from home, scoring 12 goals while conceding just twice. Meanwhile, the hosts are enduring a tough run in the Eredivisie and are finding winning difficult.

Suggested bet: PSV -1 handicap

Value bet: PSV to win by three or more goals

Greuther Furth v Cologne (Saturday)

After another fruitless away trip that stretched their winless away record to 12 losses and one draw, Greuther Furth return to home soil where the Cloverleaves are unbeaten in five matches, including three wins over Union Berlin, Mainz and Hertha Berlin. Cologne will be aiming to do the double over the promoted side after securing a 3-1 win earlier this season and will place their confidence in French striker Anthony Modeste. This time around, expect a cagey and low-scoring affair with both teams not wanting to give anything to the opposition.

Suggested bet: Under 2.5 goals

Value bet: Greuther Furth to win

Freiburg v Hertha Berlin (Saturday)

After suffering defeat away at Cologne and playing out to a 1-1 draw with Mainz, Freiburg returned to winning ways last weekend thanks to goals by Nico Schlotterbeck and Nils Petersen. Meanwhile, Hertha Berlin make the trip to the Europa-Park Stadion winless in six Bundesliga games, including four defeats. The hosts ran riot in a 4-1 win the last time Hertha Berlin came to town and will hoping for a similar outcome on Saturday.

Suggested bet: Freiburg to win

Value bet: Freiburg to win and over 2.5 goals

Torino v Cagliari (Sunday)

Torino showed determination in last weekend’s Turin derby against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium as Andrea Belotti’s strike cancelled out Matthijs de Ligt’s opener to snatch a share of the spoils. The Maroons will need to build on that performance as they look to stop their current run of four matches without a win. Cagliari, meanwhile, come into this clash after drawing three of their last four matches; most recently against Napoli.

Suggested bet: Under 2.5 goals

Value bet: Draw

Spezia v Roma (Sunday)

Following back-to-back 2-1 losses to Fiorentina and Bologna, Spezia play host to Jose Mourinho’s Roma at the Stadio Alberto Picco. Roma have drawn their last three Serie A encounters with Genoa, Sassuolo and Hellas Verona. The Giallorossi won the previous tie between these clubs 2-0 in a fiery contest with defenders Chris Smalling and Roger Ibanez securing the victory for Roma.

Suggested bet: Roma to win

Value bet: Roma to win to zero

Troyes v Marseille (Sunday)

Marseille will be aiming to further pile misery on struggling Troyes at the Stade de l’Aube on Sunday. The home team are winless in four Ligue 1 matches and come off heavy defeats to Brest (5-1) and Rennes (4-1). Marseille, on the other hand, failed to capitalize on Paris Saint-Germain’s shock defeat to Nantes last weekend, surprisingly suffering the same fate against new boys Clermont, and will be eager to return to winning ways.

Suggested bet: Marseille to win

Value bet: Marseille -1 handicap
