PUNTERS GUIDE TO SYDNEY 7s

The Blitzboks will be looking to keep pace with the leading pack in the World Series during this weekend’s Sydney 7s tournament at Spotless Stadium. The action is scheduled to kick off at midnight on Saturday morning SAST, culminating in the Cup final at 11h56 on Sunday.

The Blitzboks are scheduled to kick off their campaign at 01h50 on Saturday against Tonga. They will then face Argentina at 07h18 and hosts Australia at 11h23.

The team to beat at present is World Series leaders Fiji, who will be in action at 02h34 against Japan, 08h02 against England and 12h07 against Samoa.

The USA sit level on points with Fiji at the top and are also worth keeping an eye on. They will kick off against France at 01h06 on Saturday before facing Kenya at 06h34 and Canada at 22h39.

Once Saturday’s pool stage fixtures complete, it will be time for the knockout rounds on Sunday, with the action kicking off at 01h38.

Fiji are listed as favourites to win the tournament at 1.05, followed by New Zealand at 2.80, the USA at 3.85 and South Africa at 12.75.

England are rated at 14.50, while hosts and defending Sydney 7s champions Australia are priced at 19.00.

Fiji have won the last two tournaments, so it would take a brave punter to bet against them. Given the odds, it’s worth placing a bet on a third successive victory for Gareth Baber’s side.

1. Fiji, 57 pts
2. USA, 57 pts
3. New Zealand, 54 pts
4. South Africa, 44 pts
5. England, 38 pts
