The men’s action kicks off at 00:57 SAST on 25 January as Ireland take on Canada. The Blitzboks will be in action at 02:03 against Japan, going on to face England at 07:30 — perhaps a more palatable time for most South African viewers. Neil Powell’s men then go on to face Kenya at 01:13 the following day in an exciting African derby.

The Cup final will kick off 09:56 on Sunday 26 January. The opening two tournaments have seen South Africa take on New Zealand in this game with one win apiece.

New Zealand are rated as marginal favourites at 2.50 with the Blitzboks hot on their tail at 2.90. Defending World Series champions Fiji have gotten off to a poor start this season by their lofty standards, but are in the mix at 3.35.

France are fourth favourites, but a long way off Fiji at 9.00, while England are paying 13.00 to win the Cup.

New Zealand outplayed South Africa in the Cape Town final and are likely to win again on home soil. They are good value for money at 2.50 and the Blitzboks will likely struggle, having lost several quality players to their Super Rugby franchises.

Furthermore, South Africa are in a particularly difficult pool, with fixtures against Kenya and England both providing potential hurdles.

The Blitzboks cannot completely be written off, particularly given their strength in depth. France are the dark horse at 9.00 given their good form and favourable draw alongside Ireland, Canada and Spain in Pool C.

However, with home advantage working in their favour, New Zealand have more going for them.
