Antoine Dupont’s Injury Hammers France World Cup Hopes

It is a decision Fabien Galthie may come to rue, starting Antoine Dupont in a game he absolutely did not have to start him in. Dupont sustained a jaw injury after a clash with Namibia’s Johan Deysel.

He has had surgery on it and while it remains unclear whether he will be able to return in time for the knockouts of the World Cup. if he is unable to return it will be a massive blow for France’s title aspirations.

Is Bundee Aki The Best Inside Centre In The World?

Over the last 3 or 4 years if one asked who the best inside centre in the world is, it would have one of 2 answers, either Samu Kerevi or Damian de Allende depending on who you prefer. But in 2023, it seems to have changed.

Bundee Aki has stepped up in a way that would see you be hesitant to name either of the Southern Hemisphere chaps as the best. Bundee Aki has been the form 12 in the World Cup, whether that translates to him being the best in the world remains to be seen. The conversation is on people’s lips though.

A Clash Worthy Of Its Participants

There have been many high-scoring affairs in this World Cup that have been exciting, but the game that has arguably been the best of this World Cup yielded just 20 points. 13 for Ireland and 7 for South Africa.

It was a clash between 2 worthy opponents, the current world champions and world no.1 on the rankings and it lived up to the billing. It had thrills and spills and proved to be very exhilarating.

Owen Farrell Throws his Name Back In The Hat

After 2 superb George Ford performances in their opening 2 fixtures, Owen Farrell was called upon to start against Chile and he stepped up in a big way albeit against 2nd tier opposition.

He controlled proceedings really well and as a leader, he stepped up. The 31-year-old has thrown his name back in the hat as far as the England flyhalf starting berth is concerned.

Wales Best Performance In Ages

Wales hasn’t looked like a Warren Gatland-coached side in a very long time owing to the regression that took place during Wayne Pivac’s time. But against the Wallabies, they put in what was arguably the most complete performance since Gatland’s first era.

Gareth Anscombe had his best game in a Welsh jersey where he showed his full array of skills as he drove Wales home. Gareth Davies, Nick Tompkins, and Taulupe Faletau were also fantastic. Jac Morgan is also bringing a different dynamic as the skipper of this side.
