The 2022/23 Heineken Champions Cup is now just around the corner, with this season’s groundbreaking competition preparing to kick off on Friday night.

The addition of three South African clubs to the already elite mix of sides is set to make for an enthralling tournament, as 24 teams go head-to-head for the prestigious trophy.

London Irish welcome Montpellier on Friday in the opening game of this season’s Heineken Champions Cup.

On Saturday, Leinster travels to Racing 92 in Pool A, with that game providing an intriguing match-up at fly-half with Ireland’s Johnny Sexton against Scotland’s Finn Russell.

At the same time, the Sharks make their Champions Cup debut at home to Harlequins. The Stormers are the next South African side to debut, with a clash with Clermont Auvergne at Stade Marcel-Michelin. Also, Gloucester marks their return to the Champions Cup, and they host Bordeaux-Bègles in Pool A.

Reigning champions La Rochelle entertain Northampton Saints in Pool B. At the same time, we head to Pretoria for the first time as the Bulls host last season’s EPCR Challenge Cup winners, Lyon, in Pool A. Saturday’s matches finish when 2020 winners Exeter Chiefs visit Castres Olympique in Pool A.

On Sunday, Sale Sharks face Ulster Rugby at AJ Bell Stadium. There’s a repeat of last season’s thrilling quarter-final in Pool B, when Munster Rugby host Toulouse. Three-time champions Saracens are also in action against Edinburgh. Lastly, the Ospreys are at home to Leicester Tigers.
