Tokyo 2020 Olympics Daily Review – 29 July 2021

The week in Olympic sport has had its ups and downs for Team SA, but it looks as if it is primed to end on a high note.

Thursday got off to a fantastic start for South African Olympic supporters as Tatjana Schoenmaker and Kaylene Corbett booked their spots in the final of the women’s 200m breaststroke, where Schoenmaker is the odds-on favourite for gold on Friday.

In Pool B of the men’s hockey, South Africa stunned Germany 4-3, bringing more pride to their country. The week in Olympic sport has had its ups and downs for Team SA, but it looks as if it is primed to end on a high note.

In men’s basketball, there were wins for Slovenia and Spain over Japan and Argentina respectively. On the women’s side, Canada and Spain beat South Korea and Serbia by comfortable respective margins of 21 and 15.
