While a giant of athletics was knocked out in the semi-finals of that event, the giants of women’s football — the USA — lost 1-0 to Canada in the semis of their tournament too, with Sweden beating Australia by the same scoreline in the other semi-final.

Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi did Namibia proud as they both booked their places in the final of the women’s 200 metres, which will take place on Tuesday.
