There were emotional scenes at Turffontein last night when champion SA racehorse Legal Eagle won his comeback run in dramatic fashion. At 7-years-old and taking on some of the best sprinters in the land over a distance well short of his best, few thought he would win. When Legal Eagle missed the jump it looked as if his winning chances were gone, but jockey Anton Marcus found a late burst of speed that saw him get up on the post. Trainer Sean Tarry and Anton Marcus were both emotional post race as their champion once again showed his class. Tarry will now send Legal Eagle to Cape Town and aim him at the Queens’ Plate and Sun Met.

It’s always fun to have a pre-tournament interest by taking an outright bet before a ball is bowled or kicked in anger. Especially when it’s the first time a tournament is being run. It allows you to tell war stories for years saying “I backed the Durban Heat before they ever played a game!” and things like that. Brenton Chelin – our Marketing Manager – has been digging into the squads and he’s tipping Durban Heat and Nelson Mandela Bay Giants as the two teams to watch!

Wayne Rooney made his final England appearance at Wembley in a comfortable 3-0 win over the USA. It was nearly a dream finish, but for a Brad Guzan save in stoppage time denying Rooney a fairytale ending.

Make no mistake, the Springboks face a mountain to climb this weekend when they take on Scotland at Murrayfield. The Scots have been on the up and up the last few years and boast an impressive home record. It’s all set-up for a classic encounter.
