Bafana Bafana takes on Morocco in their final Group D match at Afcon 2019 this evening. South Africa could still finish in position 1,2,3 or 4 depending on how tonight’s fixtures pan out.
To recap Bafana’s tournament so far, Afcon 2019 did not get off to the ideal beginning after they stuttered to a 1-0 loss to the Ivory Coast. They did get their first points after a 1-0 victory win against Namibia on Friday.
The win over geographical neighbours Namibia brought Stuart Baxter’s men back into the Afcon 2019 reckoning. They have a decent chance of qualifying for the Round of 16.
In this expanded Afcon format, the top two nations from each group qualify to the Round of 16. Thereafter, the four best third-placed teams also advance to the knockout phase which begins on Friday.
As it stands in Group D, Morocco (6 points) are first, Ivory Coast (3) second, South Africa (3) third and Namibia (0) are rooted to the bottom.Bafana could seal their qualification with a win, a draw or a loss against Morocco on Monday.
