Horse Racing Tips: Turffontein and Durbanville

There’s a super double-header to look forward to this Saturday with a host of top-quality horse racing taking place at Turffontein and Durbanville.

Turffontein (Saturday)

Race 4 – Feather Boa 

Feather Boa looks to be special, and she showed that earlier this year on July day when running on from last to win going away. Randall Simons regains the ride and with the pair’s turn of foot, they should be to good here.

Race 5 – Tamarisk Tree

Tamarisk Tree was impressive on debut when bounding away to win convincingly. The 3-year-old son of Ideal World won by over 5 lengths in that run and should come on from the experience. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and they should be right there.

Race 6 – Desert Miracle

Desert Miracle has been on the track for the past 210 days. Her last run was in the SA fillies Classic. S’manga Khumalo gets the ride for the Mike De Kock stable, and if fit, the pair should put this field to the sword. It also needs to be noted that the daughter of Dynasty has won her only course and distance attempt.

Race 8 – William Robertson

William Robertson had a massive gap to make up last time but has a lower mass to carry in this contest. S’manga Khumalo, who knows him well, retains the ride and the pair should be very hard to oppose here.

Durbanville (Saturday)

Race 4 – Gift From Heaven

The value of the day comes in Race 4 at Durbanville with the Eric Sands-trained Gift From Heaven tipped to finally shine. She comes from a bloodline of multiple Grade 1 winners, being the full sister to Rainbow Bridge, Golden Ducat and Hawwaam. She hasn’t been able to live up to her heritage just yet, but in the relatively weak field, she should be able to get the job done.

Race 6 – Butterfly Beauty

Butterfly Beauty is back in her home town and gets the services of Richard Fourie after a rather solid KZN campaign. The break would have done her the world of good and the pair do look to be the value bet of the day.

Race 7 – Tipsy Tarragon

Tipsy Tarragon has been impressive in her career thus far and has shown a good turn of foot in both of her wins to date. She gets apprentice Joshwin Solomons with just 50.5kgs to carry and the pair should be able to defy the odds and get the better of the much-fancied Chansonette.

Race 8 – Pomp And Power

Pomp And Power looks to be one of the better bets on the card. He was disappointing in the Durban July, but the drop in trip down to 1400m should favour him down to the ground, and with regular pilot Richard Fourie aboard, he will certainly be hard to beat.
