There’s plenty of fascinating horse racing action to look forward to this weekend coming your way from Kenilworth and Turffontein.
Kenilworth (Sartuday)
Race 2 – Go Like Flo
Go Like Flo looks to be the best bet on the card on Saturday as this daughter of Gimmethegreenlight looks to get out of the maidens. She was pipped in her last start over this course and distance with Aldo Domeyer retaining the ride for the Andre Nel stable. She holds the best form in the race after her form lines were franked and will be difficult to oppose.
Race 4 – Mary Lamb
Horse racing’s fiercest combination in the country, Richard Fourie and Justin Snaith team up to bring home Mary Lamb in the 4th race. The daughter of Dynasty has shown encouraging signs over her last two starts and should take the power of beating. She meets a relatively weak maiden field and even though this 3-year-old filly doesn’t have too much class, she should be too good here.
Race 5 – Fun Zone
Trainer Candice Bass-Robinson’s best runner of the day looks to be in Race 5 in the form of Fun Zone. This 3-year-old filly is a very versatile sort and ran her last start over 1800m. She drops in trip to 1200m now, the distance her only win has come over. Stable jockey Aldo Domeyer gets the ride and looks well worth a punt here.
Race 7 – Jury Duty
There seems to be value to ending the day at Kenilworth with Jury Duty looking like the pick of the bunch. She’s won two of her last three starts and runs very well for JP van der Merwe who retains the services of this 5-year-old mare. The daughter of Greys Inn has a wide draw to contend with up the straight and could find some luck in running.
Turffontein (Sunday)
Race 5 – Fostinovo
Johan Janse van Vuuren could be the trainer to follow here as he holds a strong hand in Race 5. The top selection, however, is Fostinovo, ridden by the leading jockey for the season, Keagan De Melo. The son of Flower Alley finished sixth in a Listed race last run but won his two prior to that, both in sprinting distances. The 3-year-old gelding finished runner-up on his debut in his only attempt over this course and distance and should be tough to beat.
Race 6 – Bingwa
In what looks to be the most competitive race of the day, Bingwa looks to be the class of the pack. He gets the services of Gavin Lerena on board, who won on him last time out in the Grade 2 Charity Mile by 2 and a half lengths. He carries 62kgs but has the ability to trounce this field and get another win for the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable.
Race 7 – Light Of The Moon
The value bet of the day comes in Race 7 with Muzi Yeni aboard Light Of The Moon. The 4-year-old daughter of Futura is much better than her last run in the Grade 1 Summer Cup and could find a return to form here. She carries a handy galloping mass of just 54.5kgs and could utilize her front-running tactics to her advantage. Yeni knows this filly better than anybody and should be able to coax a bit extra out of her.
Race 9 – Light Of Day
Rachel Venniker stole all the headlines in Joburg last weekend, and she could do it again in the final race of the afternoon on Sunday. She jumps aboard Light Of Day is much better weighted for a closer finish this time around and should give this field a decent account of herself. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is the top-rated runner in the race and with a bit of luck in running from a fairly wide draw, she could be the one to follow.
