There’s plenty of fascinating feature racing action a nine-race program at Turffontein to look forward to on Christmas eve, as well as a Greyville meeting on Boxing day.

There’s plenty of fascinating feature racing action a nine-race program at Turffontein to look forward to on Christmas eve, as well as a Greyville meeting on Boxing day.

Turffontein (Sartuday)

Race 2 – Maharanee

The super-talented Maharanee returns to Gauteng where he has won four of his four races run in the province. In all those starts, the daughter of Flower Alley has won by a distance of 2 lengths or more excellent. During her last run in Durban, in Grade 1, she didn’t look herself and should improve back in familiar territory. Gavin Lerena gets the ride for the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable and should be too tough to oppose.

Race 5 – Pragmatist

Johan Janse van Vuuren looks like he could have another winner here in the form of Pragmatist. The two times Keagan De Melo has ridden him, he has come out to win, very convincingly at that. The 3-year-old gelding is the only horse in the race to have won over 1800m and looks difficult to beat.

Race 6 – Fostinovo

The pair of Keagan De Melo and Johan Janse van Vuuren hold the keys in this race as well and could earn a quick double together with Fostinovo. The son of Flower Alley is seeking a hat-trick of wins after winning his last two starts over the shorter ground. The manner in which he finished off his races suggests that he’ll be suited to the extra furlong on offer and should take the power of beating.

Race 9 – In The Beginning

In The Beginning was an impressive debut winner, finishing strongly over the last few furlongs. The form lines have worked out wonderfully with multiple winners coming out to frank the form, while a few other horses have gone close. The daughter of Captain of All is 2kgs worse off, but should have the quality to blow this field away.

Greyville (Monday)

Race 4 – BlackWhiteDynamate

BlackWhiteDynamite produced an impressive comeback run on the polytrack, finishing a short second. Malesela Katjedi retains the ride and gets to take 2.5kgs off his back. Peter Muscutt’s stable is finding form towards the end of the year and this looks like another winner for the him, as well as the in-form apprentice.

Race 5 – Acacia’s Blossom

Acacia’s Blossom comes into this race in great form, finishing third in her last start after a gutsy win in her penultimate run. The 3-year-old filly won her only attempt over this course and distance and should be able to return to winning ways. Gabriel Pieterse gets the ride, and from a neat draw of gate 3, this daughter of Flower Alley should win.

Race 6 – Pyromaniac

Pyromaniac has been running against the much tougher company and comes into this race off the back of the Summer Cup. He tries the Greyville turf for the first time and gets the services of S’manga Khumalo on board for the Sean Tarry stable. He’s drawn at gate 1 and should get off to a get start to tuck in and fall behind to get a good pace of the race.

Race 7 – Canadian Summer

Canadian Summer oozes class and ability and should make her presence felt once more. The daughter of Oratorio finished second in her comeback run and is yet to finish outside the top two in her career and is a Grade 1 winner in the past. The recent form line has been franked and Jason Gates should be able to get this filly’s fourth win in just her seventh start.
