Horse Racing Tips: Ready Or Not, There’s Plenty To Look Forward To

There’s plenty of fascinating feature racing to look forward to this weekend, coming your way from Kenilworth and Turffontein.

Kenilworth (Sartuday)

Race – Flying V 

Justin Snaith trains a smart juvenile filly here and could get the day off to a winning start in the Mother City. Flying V has been the talk of the town and with Richard Fourie on board, the daughter of Vercingetorix should live up to the hype around her. She’s rumoured to be very speedy and if not too green and in need of the run, she should take the power of beating.

Race 2 – Sharapova

Mike De Kock brings just a single horse to the track on Saturday in the form of Sharapova. The 3-year-old daughter of Querari has finished second in both her career starts and could make it three times lucky in this relatively weak field. Keagan De Melo gets the ride for the first time and will hope to keep up his impressive form going into the MET.

Race 7 – Rockpool

Rockpool was superb in his last start, following up his maiden win with an emphatic victory to win by over two lengths. It is encouraging to see that Richard Fourie has chosen this ride from all the other runners from Justin Snaith’s yard. The son of Futura steps up in trip and has enough class and ability to cause an upset here.

Race 8 – Ready Or Not

Dean Kannemeyer and stable jockey, Keagan De Melo, hope to lead another winner home for the Khaya Stables-owned Ready Or Not. The son of Rafeef won impressively in his last start over this course and distance, despite being drawn widest of all at gate 14. Now he’s drawn at barrier gate 1 and should be even tougher to oppose.

Turffontein (Sunday)

Race 2 – Cape Lights

Nothing reads consistency more than Cape Light’s form lines. The daughter of Ideal World has finished runner-up in her last three successive starts, all with Muzi Yeni aboard. Yeni retains the ride once more for the Robbie Sage yard and could finally break the maidens. The recent form line has been franked by multiple horses, so there should be plenty of confidence to include her in your multiples.

Race 5 – Anfield’s Rockets

Anfield’s Rocket returns to Gauteng and will hope to get back to winning ways after a rather disappointing run in the Cape Guineas. He also drops down in trip to 1000m which should suit him down to the ground. The 3-year-old chestnut gelding has won four of his six starts and won his only attempt on this course. Raymond Danielson will be aboard and has a chance to showcase his talent once more in the hope of more rides in the future.

Race 6 – Maharanee

It seems like a match race here between Sweet Pepper and Maharanee, but the selection goes to the latter who we are yet to see the best of in her career. She dislodged the rider in her last start, but before that, the daughter of Flower Alley had won both of her starts over this course and distance. She has the edge here with top jockey Keagan De Melo on board.

Race 7 – Bonete

The grey filly, Bonete, looks like a classy individual and will be difficult to beat in the Grade 3 Sea Cottage Stakes on Sunday. She’s won two of her three starts and had her saddle slipping in the one race she didn’t win, which is a legitimate excuse in a race. Randall Simons retains the ride for Mike De Kock and should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure once again.
