There’s a blockbuster weekend of horse racing this weekend, starting on Friday night at Greyville where an eight-race program gets the weekend underway. On Saturday, we’re back at Kenilworth before ending proceedings on Sunday at Scottsville.

Greyville (Friday)

Race 1 – Where’s The Party

The opening race on Friday evening could be the first leg of many multiples with Where’s The Party looking a solid bet, despite being odds on at the time of writing. The 3-year-old daughter of Pathfork finished second in her debut run, but lost a length at the start and showed signs of still being green and in need of the run. With more experience, she should take the power of beating and find herself in the winner’s box.

Race 7 – Wiley Riley

One of the better bets on the card comes in Race 7 in the form of Wiley Riley from the Gavin Van Zyl yard. The son of Wylie Hall has produced three decent runs in his career thus far, and was most impressive in his last start, finishing second Fire Lord, despite losing a length out the gates. Robert Khathi jumps aboard, and in this fairly weak field, Wiley Riley should go close.

Kenilworth (Saturday)

Race 2 – Strawberry Light

It’s not often a first-timer is backed with much confidence, but Strawberry Light stands out in this field of nine runners. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is from the Justin Snaith yard and cost Bjorn Nielsen R1.1 million. Ryan Munger is aboard this sister to Varsity Cup and should give a decent account of herself on debut.

Race 6 – Dean Street

Dean Street looks to be the right horse in this race as he comes into this run-off the back of a hat-trick. He won his last three starts over sprinting distance, but the manner in which he finished off suggests that he could be better suited to the step up in trip to 1400m. With jockey S’manga Khumalo in the saddle and with a light mass of 54kgs on his back, he should be difficult to look past.

Race 7 – Academic Gold

Academic Gold can be included in all multiples this weekend with plenty of confidence coming from her last run. She eased past her rivals in her last start, winning by over five lengths over 1600m. The manner in which she cruised home suggests that the extra furlong shouldn’t be too much of a hurdle for her and should make her punters very happy.

Scottsville (Sunday)

Race 1 – Imposing

Imposing is the selection to start the race meeting at Scottsville on Sunday. After his impressive debut, he went on to run into Grade 2 contests and was not disgraced. Back to maiden company here and he should extremely have to beat with Calvin Habib in the saddle from draw 3 in the straight.

Race 3 – Blazing Light

Blazing Light and Sean Veale look to be one of the better bets on the card. He is a consistent sort and the pair look to be hard to beat in this contest. He jumps from an inside draw of 4 and the pair should be able to break the maiden in this contest as he has had one place and one run from this contest.

Race 5 – Imitation Game

Imitation Game comes into this race in good form with Tristan Godden in the irons for Lorenzo Karriem. The pair do look hard to beat from an inside draw of 5. He has had one run on this course for one place which was an impressive second in his penultimate start. He is 4kgs better off with the most fancied horse in the race in Quest For The Best and he should be able to reverse the form in this tie.
