Our 3 best bets for Happy Valley 20 May

Race 1 – SHAN PUI RIVER HANDICAP (DIV I) (CLASS 4)

Race 1 is a fairly meek Class 4 12-runner handicap over 1200m, but its worth having a go at with Bet.co.za’s First Race Insurance. The starting favourite fluffed the jump last time so the pressure will be on him to rectify that. It makes for a worthwhile time to back a longshot that could pop up if there’s a repeat.
TIP: HERE COMES TEDWith just one run at the Valley to date, he comes in a underexposed and there should be a valuable price about him. Karis Teetan gets the ride, and you’re always assured an honest run from him. They lose the blinkers and go for the cheekpieces which should give him a better of things coming down the straight. Going the extra furlong will suit him, and if he can repeat the run on 2nd at Sha Tin a view runs back, he’s definitely worth the go.

Race 4 – KAM TIN RIVER HANDICAP (CLASS 3)

Our second standout for the day comes in Race 4. This small, 9-runner Class 3 handicap over 1000m has a couple contenders with one stand out for us.
TIP: EXPLOSIVE WITNESSThis 5 year old has been there or thereabouts since a return from a 175 day layoff. Each run brings a fitter performance and Joao Moreira picks up the ride this time round, an indication this may be the run to follow. After an injury ridden start to its career, it was clearly earmarked for success from the outset, and the indication of consistent ability gives me confidence that first win is imminent.

Race 9 – HO CHUNG RIVER HANDICAP (CLASS 2)

Race 9 is a treat of race to end things off, and brings us the last of our standout selections. This 12 runner Class 2 handicap over 1200m seems to have a standout performer for punters to have a go at, albeit in a competitive field.
TIP: SHINING GEM – Vincent Ho is one of my favourite jocks in Hong Kong, and he’s struck up a great relationship with this progressive 4 year old. He’s up in class here after a strong Class 3 win last time out, but being a handicap he’ll have some weight on the higher rated horses. The only way is up for this one, and before the handicapper catches up with its ability, it’s worth continuing to follow.
