Happy Valley Betting Tips – 3 May 2020

Hong Kong has become the premier racing centre in the world, with most other prestigious tracks on lockdown. We’re firmly focussed on providing you with both Happy Valley and Sha Tin betting tips over this time.

06:30 | Race 1 – ARGONAUT PLATE (CONDITIONS)

Race 1 starts off the day with a 1000m sprint. A small, tricky race to call with 4 runners having met last time out.
TIP: SMILING FACEA slight preference is for the favourite, which looked the best of them, but not an easy one to call.

07:00 | Race 2 – SPECIAL CARGO HANDICAP (CLASS 5)

A big field competes in Race 2 over 1200m. Being a Class 5 there’s a mixed bag of improvers and better rated horses on the decline.
TIP: CORRE RAPIDOThe New Zealand bred 8 year old is a course and distance winner with a few 4th places in recent runs. Likely to start at double figure odds, I’d suggest a speculative each way play.

07:30 | Race 3 – QUEEN MOTHER MEMORIAL CUP (GROUP 3)

The feature race of the day comes up in Race 3, with a 5 runner field fighting it out over 2000m for Group 3 honours.
TIP: SAVVY NINE – We’re siding with the bottom weight in this handicap. The favourite (HELENE LEADINGSTAR) looks the standout, but Moreira has this runner on the rise and a plum inside draw to take advantage of.

08:00 | Race 4 – ISLE OF MAN HANDICAP (CLASS 4)

Race 4 is a fairly open 1000m sprint with a decent field of progressive types.
TIP: FABULOUS EIGHT – This selection may start a weak favourite unless punters follow in fancying the lightly raced 5 year old. Third run back from almost a year off the track should result in a fit horse, tuned up to win.

08:30 | Race 5 – BRANDY SNAP HANDICAP (CLASS 3)

Race 5 hosts some of the better quality runners on the day in a competitive 1200m Class 3 race on the turf.
TIP: MIG ENERGY – Karis Teetan gets another go on this recent Hong Kong resident. A further drop in ratings doesn’t reflect the decent last two runs, and an each way bet on this at value odds could work out well.

09:00 | Race 6 – MANICOU HANDICAP (CLASS 4)

Race 6 is a handicap over 1650m, with quite a few of these runners looking to turnaround weak recent form.
TIP: EXCEL DELIGHT – This selection will likely start favourite, and deservedly so. Knocking on the door with three consecutive runner up finishes, Joao Moreira will look to put this one to bed.

09:35 | Race 7 – NORMAN CONQUEROR HANDICAP (CLASS 4)

This 1600m handicap in Race 7 could throw up a rough result if the favourite goes missing.
TIP: ENJOY LIFEThis is another each way play. This previous course and distance winner popped up to run a nose second last time out under the same apprentice claim. Slightly up in the weights this time around, a gamble on this at what hopefully will be 10/1 or greater is my play here.

10:05 | Race 8 – INSULAR HANDICAP (CLASS 3)

Race 8 is a 9-runner 1800m handicap where I feel a few will fight out favouritism come race time.
TIP: LONDON HALLA strong recent show of form looks to be the deciding factor in this selection. With all runner very close in the rating, London Hall seems in the better form, and from draw 6, could have control of the race.

10:35 | Race 9 – MONAVEEN HANDICAP (CLASS 4)

Race 9 is over 1400m round the bend with a lot of fancied runners copping unfortunate draws.
TIP: DIAMOND KING – A speculative bet in the hope that those drawn wide eat up energy to get a better position. Drawn 3 amongst one or two other roughies, this selection could take cover and use its speed to nab them late.

11:10 | Race 10 – GAME SPIRIT HANDICAP (CLASS 3)

Race 10 is a competitive 1200m on the dirt track, where getting a good start could be the deciding factor come the final couple of furlongs.
TIP: ZERO HEDGE – Again, I’m going to each way value instead of favouritism, in the hope to get good place odds. Consistency mixed with some bad luck in running recently sees ZERO HEDGE likely to start a much bigger odds than its chances. A smooth exit from the gates, tucked in just ahead of midpack, and there’s every chance he could hit the frame on the finish line.

11:45 | Race 11 – INCH ARRAN HANDICAP (CLASS 3)

The last of the day, Race 11, looks to be a two horse race over the 1400m between Juneau Park and Everyone’s Joy.
TIP: EVERYONE’S JOY – This selection will likely start a distant second favourite, but Chad Schofield seems to have found a good pairing, with an impressive win last time out. I’m looking to take the value price to beat a likely short Moreira odds for the favourite with far less than that separating them. I say get involved with this one before the handicapper does.
