The 18 finalists and 2 reserve runners for the 2021 Durban July final field were announced on 22 June.
For the second year Gold Circle will be hosting their grandstand day, the Durban July, behind closed doors. This year’s horse race edition will be held on 3 July 2021 at Greyville Racecourse in Durban. Whilst a few notable absentees may have allowed some lower rated entries, this handicap race remains the pinnacle of the racing season. There is already some solid support for the more fancied runners in this year’s race, so interest has already peaked.

This year’s field, despite the notable absentees, has a few prolific runners with massive chances to win this prestigious race. Last year’s winner Belgarion goes for two-in-a-row, with a year of experience and an extra 5kgs as a result. Other experienced runners include 2-time winner Do It Again, Rainbow Bridge and last year’s runner up, Got The Greenlight. The latter of those three currently tops the betting at 3.50.
