Ryder Cup 2023: Preview & Outright Odds

We preview the 2023 Ryder Cup and a look at the outright odds as the top male golfers from Europe & the USA gear up for an epic showdown.

Ryder Cup Preview Odds

The top male golfers from Europe and the United States are gearing up for an epic showdown to claim the Ryder Cup trophy. The 44th edition of the men’s team tournament is set to unfold in Italy at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, located just outside Rome, from Friday, September 29th, to Sunday, October 1st. We preview the 2023 Ryder Cup and also take a look at the outright odds.

Team USA is determined to secure their second consecutive title, following their impressive 19-9 victory at Whistling Straits in 2021. However, it’s worth noting that the reigning champions have not tasted victory on European soil since 1993.

Since the inclusion of continental Europe in the Ryder Cup in 1979, Europe currently holds a slim 11-9 lead over the United States, making this competition all the more thrilling as the Americans aim to even the score.

European team captain Luke Donald draws inspiration from the recent success of Europe’s female players, who triumphed in the Solheim Cup last weekend. This victory adds extra motivation for the European squad.

The 2023 Ryder Cup will feature an impressive lineup, including all the major championship winners: Jon Rahm (Masters Tournament), Brooks Koepka (PGA Championship), Wyndham Clark (U.S. Open), and Brian Harman (The Open Championship). These elite players are ready to showcase their skills on the Italian capital’s golf course.

Ryder Cup 2023 Format

The Ryder Cup, a biennial golf event between Europe and the USA, follows the exciting matchplay format where players compete to earn points for their respective teams.

During the first two days of the tournament, players participate in pairs, directly facing off against their opponents. These sessions include “fourballs,” where each of the four players uses their own ball, resulting in four balls in play on each hole, and “foursomes,” where each team shares a single ball, and the two players from that team take turns hitting it. The pair with the lowest score on each of the 18 holes secures that hole, and the team that wins the majority of holes in their match earns a point. In case of a tie after the 18-hole round, each team receives half a point.

The event culminates on the final day when all 12 players from each team compete in “singles” matches, applying the same scoring rules as in the previous sessions.

The first team to accumulate 14.5 points will be declared the Ryder Cup winner. In the event of a 14-14 tie, the trophy will remain with the current holders, the USA.
