Gear up for the prestigious US PGA Championship golf contest taking place at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The 72-hole stroke play event will see a winner walking away with an estimated prize money of $20 million.

History

The PGA Championship, organized by the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA of America), is one of the four major championships in professional golf.

The prestigious tournament was first held in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York. It was initially a match-play event, but it switched to stroke play in 1958.

Over the years, we have seen several golfing legends winning the PGA Championship multiple times, including Walter Hagen, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and more recently, Brooks Koepka. Many records have been set and broken in the history of the PGA Championship, including the lowest winning score, largest margin of victory, youngest and oldest winners, and so on. Gene Sarazen still holds a record of the youngest winner of the competition, stood for more than 100 years.

Unlike the other majors, which have specific courses associated with them, the PGA Championship rotates its venue annually among various prestigious golf courses in the United States. This year’s edition is heading to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

Players To Watch

Scottie Scheffler

The world number one is one of the players to look for in the current US PGA Championship. He first reached the position back in March 2022, winning major championships including the Phoenix Open in 2022 and 2023, Players Championship, and Masters Championship in 2022. Last month, Scottie Scheffler won the Masters for the second time in three years.

Rory McIlroy

The North Irish professional golfer is no stranger to this competition, as he won it back in 2014. In his recent accolades, Rory McIlroy the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and was named PGA player of the year in 2012.
