What Is The Hundred?

The Hundred Explained

The Hundred is being billed by the ECB as an action-packed, unmissable new 100 ball cricket competition that will put you on the edge of your seat. The action begins on 22 July 2021. This is most certainly a step into the unknown for the ECB and also cricket in general.

The Hundred will feature international players and local English players. Eight brand new city-based women’s and men’s teams will compete over five weeks every summer. 

How Are Players Selected?

A Draft system is used to allocate players to each men’s team. The Draft player reveal will take place on 23rd February 2021. The women’s teams have their own bespoke player selection process.

Trent Rockets – 5.50

Southern Brave – 5.00

Northern Superchargers – 7.00

Welsh Fire – 6.50

Oval Invincibles – 5.50

Manchester Originals – 6.00

London Spirit – 7.00

Birmingham Phoenix – 7.00

Rules

The majority of rules remain the same, but the biggest change addresses the match length and how the overs will be bowled.

Each innings will last only 100 balls.

Each over can either consist of five consecutive balls or 10, with the captain to decide how long they will go on for.

There will be a change of ends after 10 deliveries, with bowlers allowed to bowl 20 balls per innings.

The fielding team have one tactical 2.5 minutes time-out per innings.

The team that scores the most runs will win the match.
