Magala Joins Chennai Super Kings As Jamieson’s Replacement

South Africa’s Sisanda Magala has signed for Chennai Super Kings as a replacement for the injured Kyle Jamieson for the upcoming IPL 2023 campaign. Magala has never played in the IPL and will join CSK at a base price of INR 50 Lakh.

Jamieson was signed by CSK for INR 1 crore at the IPL mini-auction but suffered a recurrence of a lower-back stress fracture shortly before last month’s Test series against England. He is expected to miss this year’s IPL.

Despite just playing 4 T20Is for South Africa, Magala has a reputation for being a regular wicket-taker in domestic T20 games over the years. He helped Sunrisers Eastern Cape to SA20 glory in the inaugural edition at the start of this year, finishing the tournament as the joint-fifth wicket-taker, with 14 scalps at an economy rate of 8.68.
