Ireland v South Africa First ODI: 3 Bets to Take

After securing a crucial 3-2 series win in the T20Is against the West Indies, the Proteas turn their attention to the ODIs against Ireland. The two teams are set to face each other in a three-match ODI series, starting from Sunday. This is an important series for Temba Bavuma’s men as they are currently at bottom of the WC Super League table with one win from three games.

Kagiso Rabada

KG Rabada will be spearheading the Proteas’ bowling attack once again for this series and will hope to have a better time with the ball against Ireland than he did in the T20I series versus the West Indies. The last time the Proteas were in an ODI series, van der Dussen scored his first century in international cricket against Pakistan. He had a fairly quiet T20I series against the West Indies which was bound to happen because of the very high standards he has set in his young Proteas’ career. He has an unbelievable average of 80.90 with the bat in the 23 matches he’s played for the Proteas. This series will be a great opportunity for him to become the fastest South African to 1000 ODI runs as he just needs 110 more runs to break Quinton de Kock’s record (21 innings). I wouldn’t put it past him to break the record in this match even though he’ll have their entire series to do so.

Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram’s ODI career hasn’t quite gone as well as many people expected. He’s played 28 matches in ODI cricket for his country averaging 27.65 with the bat. He’s coming off two good series in T20Is against Pakistan and the West Indies. Markram also had a decent ODI series against Pakistan although he failed to capitalise on his fantastic starts. This series will be the perfect opportunity for him to kickstart his ODI career and cement his place at the top of the order in limited-overs cricket for South Africa.
