IPL 2020: Match 53- CSK v KXIP Preview, Prediction, Probable Playing XI and Value bets.

Betting Preview

With just a handful of league games remaining, the qualification scenario seems quite chaotic with at least four teams still in contention for a fourth playoff spot. In 53rd game of Dream 11 IPL, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). It will be the last League game for both the sides as well. CSK are already out of the tournament and are placed at the bottom of the points table with 10 points and have nothing to lose. On the other hand, it is a must win game for KXIP to keep their chances alive in the tournament.

Chennai Super Kings have had a forgetful campaign in this edition of IPL but they will find some solace in back-to-back wins in their last two games after a string of losses. They were one of the weakest sides in the first half of the tournament and were extremely inconsistent with their playing XI, making frequent changes but none of those changes had worked in their favour. However, they seem to have found some form a little too late as they come into their final game of the tournament with two clinical wins behind them. Their batting, that was over-reliant on Faf du Plessis early on, has been revamped by the addition of Ruturaj Gaikwad who hit two consecutive fifties to set the stage for CSK’s wins.

Ravindra Jadeja has failed to impress with the ball but has been in phenomenal touch with the bat and is the only player in the Chennai side who has shown positive intent and managed to accelerate at the back end of the innings to finish games for CSK. The bowling also has looked a lot more stable as Ravindra Jadeja, Karn Sharma and Mitchell Santner provide Dhoni with a lot of options in the middle overs on slow wickets. Sam Curran has been a revelation to CSK as he has continuously delivered in all the departments. They will look to test their bench strength yet again in their final game of the tournament and that may bring a little instability to the side and Punjab will look to exploit that. Chennai has suddenly started looking strong with the entire team clicking as a unit and with their campaign done and dusted, they will look to end the tournament on a high note.

Kings XI Punjab, however, can’t afford to make a mistake as they have their playoff berth at stake. They had looked the strongest contender for the fourth spot just a couple of days ago with 5 wins in 5 games but a loss in their last game against Rajasthan has complicated their qualification scenario and a loss against CSK will throw them out of the race. After languishing at the bottom of the table at halfway mark, Punjab scripted a dramatic turnaround winning 5 games on the trot to make it to the top half of the points table.

From losing matches from commanding positions in the first half of the tournament, they started clinching victories from the jaws of defeat. This was due to a remarkable improvement in both their batting and bowling departments as they picked their form and built the momentum at just the right team. The inclusion of Chris Gayle has breathed a new life into their batting line-up as the 41-year old Jamaican is striking the ball as beautifully as ever and has played a key role in securing wins for Punjab.

KL Rahul has been in sensational form throughout the tournament and with Pooran hitting the ball well in the lower order, Punjab’s batting looks dangerous. Mohammad Shami has led the bowling attack from the front and has been well supported by the young Arshdeep Singh. Ravi Bishnoi has also been very effective in the middle overs by restricting the run flow. Given their recent form, Punjab looks the favourites to win the game and advance to the play-offs.

On the other hand, SRH have blown hot and cold constantly throughout this tournament. They are coming into this game on the back of a thumping win over Delhi Capitals. However, they have only five wins from 12 games and need to win both their remaining games and also, they need a few results to go their way if they want to stand a chance of qualifying for the playoffs. David Warner looked at his smashing best in the last game. Their middle-order still looks slightly shaky but Kane Williamson provides that stability. The bowling is reliant on Rashid Khan who has been outstanding. Hence, much will depend on the star overseas duo for SRH.

Injury and Availability News

Mayank Agarwal(KXIP) had injured himself in the game against DC and has missed all of Punjab’s games ever since. Faf du Plessis (CSK) missed Chennia’s last game against KKR due to a probable injury and may not be available.

Probable Playing XI

Chennai Super Kings

Shane Watson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni ( c&wk ), N Jagadeesan, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Karn Sharma, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Lungi Ngidi

Kings XI Punjab

KL Rahul (c & wk), Mandeep Singh, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Glenn Maxwell, Deepak Hooda, Chris Jordan, Mohammed Shami, Murugan Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh

Key Players to watch out for

Chris Gayle: After sitting out for the first half of the tournament, the addition of Gayle has worked wonders for KXIP as he has been in an explosive form and delivered in almost every single game. He was very unfortunate in the last game to miss out on his century by just one run after completely dominating Rajasthan’s bowling attack. He has amassed 276 runs in just the 6 games that he has played with the help of three half-centuries. He will look to carry this momentum forward and get his team over the line in a must-win game.

KL Rahul: The most consistent batsman in the tournament, Rahul has given Punjab the much-needed solid starts time and again. He has been in a stellar form and looks unstoppable at the moment. He is also the highest run-scorer of the tournament by quite some margin with 641 runs in 13 games at an average of 58.27. He will look to bank on his current form and leave no room for error in a game with such high stakes.

Ruturaj Gaikwad: After failing to impress in his initial games, Gaikwad has been impressive with his back-to-back fifties in Chennai’s last two games against KKR and RCB. He has brought Chennai back to winning ways and they will depend on him yet again for a solid start at the front end of the innings. He has shown that he is capable to finish the game for his side and will look to repeat his heroics.
