IPL 2020: Match 42 – Kolkata Knight Riders v Delhi Capitals Preview, Prediction, Probable Playing XI and Value bets.

Betting Preview

In match number 42 of this Dream11 IPL, an inconsistent Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) take on the table-toppers Delhi Capitals (DC). The last time these two sides squared off, it was Shreyas Iyer’s Delhi Capitals that came out on top in a high-scoring game. Since then, a lot has changed for Kolkata who’ve had a change in captaincy and some of the big stars have struggled with injuries and other issues.

Kolkata Knight Riders are coming into this game on the back of a thrashing they got from Royal Challengers Bangalore. The batting failed miserably as they recorded the lowest score of this season and also the lowest score ever for a team that played out all 20 overs in the IPL. That makes it three losses in the last four games for KKR and suddenly, they seem to be wobbly.

The Eoin Morgan-led side are still fourth (10 points) on the points table and have had one loss less compared to the bottom four. However, that could change quickly and it’s time KKR pull up their socks. They need to sort out their batting which seems to be in a big mess while the bowling has been inconsistent but the addition of Lockie Ferguson has induced some life into that attack.

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals also suffered a loss in the last game against Kings XI Punjab. However, they will most likely brush it aside as they are sitting pretty at the top of the points table with 14 points. They just need one win from their last four games to seal a playoff spot. However, Shreyas Iyer and his men will want to keep the foot on the pedal and aim for a top-two finish.

While the middle-order has looked slightly shaky in the last couple of games, Shikhar Dhawan’s transformation at the top has been remarkable and he is looking unstoppable. Delhi included Daniel Sams and gave Anrich Nortje a breather for one game but are likely to revert to their first-choice bowling attack which wears a solid look and has all bases covered.

Thus, both teams will want to get back to winning ways but KKR needs to get those two points if they want to stay distance themselves from the bottom four and avoid the middle-order muddle.

Injury and Availability News

As Eoin Morgan mentioned at the toss in the last game, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are not 100% fit and are unlikely to feature in this game as well. Delhi Capitals have had two players (Amit Mishra and Ishant Sharma) fly back home due to injuries.

Probable Playing XI

Kolkata Knight Riders

Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Tom Banton, Eoin Morgan (c), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Pat Cummins, Lockie Ferguson, Kuldeep Yadav, Shivam Mavi/Prasidh Krishna, Varun Chakravarthy

Delhi Capitals

Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Anrich Nortje/Daniel Sams, Kagiso Rabada, Tushar Deshpande

Key Players to watch out for

Shikhar Dhawan: The left-handed opening batsman has looked in scintillating form in the last few games. He has scored 465 runs in this tournament and 333 of them have come in the last four games (two hundreds and two fifties). Dhawan seems to be on a roll and is looking in ominous touch. KKR need to be wary of him.

Lockie Ferguson: The New Zealand fast bowler has played just two games and has already looked a class apart. Ferguson has been the best bowler on display for KKR and it was strange that he didn’t take the new ball against RCB despite defending only 85. He is bowling at extreme pace and has a superb slower delivery as well.

Delhi’s spin twins: While most of the attention has been on the Delhi fast bowlers and their ability to rattle the batsmen with pace, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel have gone about their job quietly but have performed well. Both of them have picked up eight wickets apiece. Patel has an economy of 5.74 and Ashwin has an economy of 7.11. The spin duo have played a big part in Delhi’s success so far.

Value Betting
