The Indian Premier League has always been a stepping stone for many cricketers, young & experienced. This year, there are a few youngsters who have shown promise and who have the abilities to go on to become the best in the world for many years to come.

For many years, the IPL has set the standard of T20 cricket and is viewed as the best T20 league in the world. To see a youngster play with freedom and showcase their skills at that level is something to be proud of because if they can do it in the IPL, they most probably could do it at any other level.

Let’s take a look at Five Youngsters who have done well so far in the IPL:

Dewald Brevis (Mumbai Indians)

The South African youngster made a name for himself long before he made his debut in professional cricket. From his high school days, he was always seen as one for the future. His batting style and intensity have always resembled that of AB  de Villiers which has earned him the slang ‘Baby AB’ amongst cricket fans around the world.

Dewald smashed 28 runs in five balls off the bowling of Rahul Chahar last night and managed a magnificent 25-ball 49. That knock included five sixes and four fours, all at a strike rate of 196. If there’s any young batter worth betting on, it’s the South African Dewald Brevis.

Tilak Varma (Mumbai Indians)

Mumbai Indians have recruited a number of youngsters into their side and released a few senior players to go play for other teams. This has perhaps led to their slow start in the competition, but they are now starting to take off as these youngsters gain confidence.

19-year-old Varma batted at 4 for Mumbai Indians last night and smashed a 20- ball 36 runs alongside another 19-year-old in Dewald Brevis. The two youngsters combined for an 84-run partnership and gave the Mumbai Indians fans a glimmer of hope as they chased a mammoth 199 runs for victory against Punjab Kings.

Tilak is worth betting on in this year’s IPL. Mumbai Indians will be up against Lucknow Supergiants on Saturday, 16th of April and Dewald and Tilak will be on show once again.

Maheesh Theekshana (Chennai Super Kings)

The Srilankan mystery spinner has already created a name for himself in international cricket so much that we forget he is only 22-years-old. Two days ago, up against a strong RCB batting order, Theekshana got the wicket of Faf du  Plessis who is in red-hot form this season.

Theekshana went on to claim three more wickets and finished with figures of 4- 33 in his 4 overs. He is calm under pressure and has the skills to do damage against any batting lineup in the IPL. He is one to look out for as the IPL gets closer to the play-offs.

Umran Malik (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

If you are a fan of fast bowling, this 22-year-old is worth looking into. He is fast,  consistent and has the good-old fast bowler’s attitude that batters don’t like. He is a complete package.

This year, he’s been clocking the 150 KPH mark from his very first over of a  match and has been the quickest in the competition. Umran Malik is another exciting youngster who can certainly achieve big things this season. Be on the lookout for him!

Anuj Rawat (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Last but not least, we have Anuj Rawat. Left-handed, tall and strong, the 22-year old Rawat has been recruited by RCB for this year’s tournament. He opens the batting alongside the experienced Faf du Plessis and has played some valuable knocks already this season.

His 66 off 47 against Mumbai Indians last week showed just how talented this man is. That knock was against a bowling attack that included Jasprit Bumrah but that did not stop Anuj Rawat from smashing two fours and six sixes in that match and literally winning that match for RCB. Anuj Rawat is it. He is worth all your money.
