Delhi Capitals will take on Punjab Kings at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai this afternoon. Both teams have lost three and won two of their last five matches and will want to weed out the inconsistency they’ve shown with the tournament nearing its halfway stage.
There are reports of a Covid-19 outbreak in the Capitals’ camp. It will be interesting to see how they react to it. Let’s have a look at the betting preview for Match 32 of IPL 2022.
Betting Preview
This match will see former Capitals, Kagiso Rabada and Shikhar Dhawan take on their former franchise in Punjab Kings colours for the first time.
There’s been nothing ordinary about Delhi Capitals’ campaign so far, with four of their five matches won by the underdogs, much to their detriment. They entered the season as the third favourites to win the 2022 title but have failed to be incisive upfront with the ball, collecting just five powerplay wickets from 20 overs.
Outside of opening pair Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, who are Delhi’s only half-centurions so far with two each, there has been an underwhelming impact from their match-winners. Captain, Rishabh Pant is yet to register a half-century this season while Rovman Powell has been bitterly disappointing with four single-digit scores and a best of 20.
With the ball, Mustafizur Rahman’s economy rate of 7.37 runs per over somewhat spares the embarrassment of three wickets from 18 hours. Former CSK star Shardul Thakur has nowhere to hide after racking up an economy of 9.54rpo for his four wickets. The absence of Anrich Nortje, who was amongst the competition’s top five powerplay bowlers in 2021, continues to be felt. They’ll be without all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh who tested positive for COVID-19 and was later admitted to a hospital.
Punjab Kings’ captain, Mayank Agarwal is expected to return from a minor toe injury. Despite his side losing 2+ powerplay wickets four times already this season, he is expected to be aggressive from the outset once again. The Kings amassed the second-largest powerplay score of the year at Brabourne Stadium, scoring 72/2 against struggling CSK. That start continued their incredible run rate of 9.81 during the first six overs. If they can unlock the best of Jonny Bairstow, who is averaging 10.66 in his new role as a number three, their formidable top four appear capable of beating anybody on their day.
The Kings’ bowling has been ordinary so far this season. Apart from Rahul Chahar and Kagiso Rabada, they have lacked wicket-taking menace. Arshdeep Singh has been superb at keeping the runs down at the death, but he only has two wickets across phases from 21 overs in six matches. Odean Smith, on top of not scoring enough runs, is leaking them at 11.86 an over.
Although Punjab Kings were beaten in their most recent IPL fixture, they can take heart from the fact that they have responded strongly in each of the last two matches played after losing, winning both times. Expect them to do the same against a struggling DC side.
Key Stat
The team that bats second has won 71% of the 28 matches between these two sides.

Shikhar Dhawan had never been dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman in T20s before, scoring 57 runs from 39 balls.
Rahul Chahar dismissed Prithvi Shaw for just four runs conceded in their only previous meeting.
A leg-spinner has returned the best bowling figures in six of the eight IPL games at Brabourne Stadium this year.
Players to Watch
Delhi opener David Warner will be one of the happiest players with the relocation of this match – he averages 39 at Brabourne Stadium. He will relish the batting-friendly track after back-to-back half-centuries including one in his previous game here. Warner has never been dismissed by Punjab leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, scoring a blistering 50 runs from 28 balls faced. Chahar will be backing himself if they go head-to-head again, having returned the Kings’ best bowling figures four times already this year.
