Betting Preview
There isn’t a great deal of jeopardy in this contest. Both Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals have qualified for the playoffs but there is the small matter of confirming a place in the top two, which offers an extra shot at a place in the IPL final.
The Delhi Capitals stumbled twice when chasing a modest target of 130 against defending champions Mumbai Indians, achieving the rare feat of winning a 20-over game despite losing three wickets inside the first six overs. Sometimes the difficult victories are the most rewarding, and as well as taking their record as outsiders to 2-0 this year, it would have gone some way to helping them bury the ghosts of back-to-back losses to Mumbai in Dubai in the 2020 playoffs.
The return of Prithvi Shaw failed to prove fruitful as he recorded his third score of 11 or less from three innings in this UAE phase (average 9.00). Despite that, an early wicket from Avesh Khan allowed them to post the highest opening partnership for the ninth time in 2021. They’ll be hoping that Dhawan and Shaw can both reclaim the form that saw them combine for an opening stand of 138 against Chennai in the reverse fixture in April.
If Sam Curran (0/55 against Rajasthan) and Josh Hazlewood (0/54) repeat their efforts from their previous match, another big start from Delhi could be on the cards. Deepak Chahar, who has dismissed Shaw five times at an average of just 11.00 in all T20s, may be in line for an immediate return. Despite reasserting themselves as one of the fastest scoring teams of the season (9.04rpo, 11.88rpo in the death overs), Chennai’s bowling unit, which has conceded 170+ runs six times this season, let them down once again.
This is a tough one to call with CSK and DC sitting in first and second place respectively (both on 18 points from 12 matches) in the standings. This is a match that will probably be won by the team with the better bowling performance and I am backing Ricky Ponting’s side for this one.
Stat Attack
Matches 40 to 47 of this edition were all won by the team to bat second.
The average first innings score in Dubai (prior to RCB v PBKS) was 160.
CSK have hit the most sixes in five of the last six H2Hs.
Kagiso Rabada has dismissed Faf du Plessis three times in T20s for just 31 runs conceded (6.64rpo).
Shikhar Dhawan averages 67.00 against Shardul Thakur at an average of 176.31.
Players To Watch
Delhi fast bowler Avesh Khan was simply sublime once again on Saturday, registering his team’s best bowling figures (3/15) for a seventh time this season. He’ll likely take on Chennai opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has top-scored for his team in five of their last seven matches after a stunning unbeaten century on Saturday.
Best Bets
Suggested Bet: Ruturaj Gaikwad to be CSK’s top batsman 3.75
Suggested Bet: DC to score the most runs in the first 6 overs 1.90
