IPL 2022 Tristan Stubbs

Mumbai Indians confirmed last Thursday that 21-year-old star batter, Tristan Stubbs, has joined the IPL franchise as a replacement for the injured Tymal Mills.

This signing brought SA fans a lot of excitement. Bet Central & @imongamagcwabe bring you 3 Reasons To Bet On Stubbs.

He Dominates T20 Competitions

The youngster from Gqeberha set South African Cricket alight in February 2022 with stellar performances in the CSA T20 Challenge. Stubbs had already made a name for himself in the season before the recently concluded 2021/22 season.

Stubbs impressed in his first season in franchise cricket by smashing the second most sixes by a batter in his team (Warriors). He also recorded the Warriors’ 3rd highest strike rate in a single innings.

Stubbs quickly established a reputation of being one of the country’s few natural big hitters. This year, he smashed 293 runs at a strike rate of 183.12 in just seven innings.

Stubbs dominated in the tournament despite the presence of some big names who weren’t too out of touch themselves. The big names included Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Dane Vilas and Jon-Jon Smuts to name a few.

The youngster finished the tournament as the batter with the most sixes with his 23 maximums. Placed below him on that list were Pieter Malan and David Miller with 10 less and 12 fewer maximums to Stubbs’ tally of 23 sixes in the tournament.

He Is Backed By The Greats Of The Game

His domestic coach, Robin Petersen, is well known for backing youngsters and giving them opportunities. Tristan Stubbs is one of the youngsters Robbie P has backed and the backing has paid dividends. Marco Jansen is one of the youngsters that Petersen has backed and the rest is history.

Many former Proteas players back him as one to watch for the future.

His Numbers Back Him Up

It is important to note that Stubbs has played 17 T20 matches in his career so far, and 11 of those were at the highest level of South African domestic cricket. In those 17 games, Stubbs has a career strike rate of 157.14 and an average of 38.92. He has three fifties to his name and a highest score of 80*.
