CSA Awards: Anrich Nortje, Shabnim Ismail Claim Top Honours

Fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Shabnim Ismail won the CSA Awards’ biggest prizes as they were named South Africa’s Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year, respectively.

The pair had recently won big in 2021, with Ismail picking up the top honours for the third time. The recently retired Ismail picked up eight wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 5.86 in South Africa’s run to a home T20 World Cup final earlier this year. Nortje has arguably been the Proteas’ most consistent bowler in all formats in the past few years and deservedly walked away with the Men’s Player of the Year Award.

Nortje’s partner in crime, Kagiso Rabada, picked up the men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award while Test and ODI captain Temba Bavuma was named the men’s ODI Player of the Year. Reeza Hendricks walked away with the T20I Player of the Year award after a fantastic season, scoring back-to-back half-centuries against the West Indies earlier this year.

Some of the big winners from the women’s team were left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba, who scooped two awards after her superb bowling propelled her to the world number two ranking in T20Is, and wicketkeeper Sinalo Jafta, who was voted as the Fans’ Player of the Year.
