After the exciting 47 games in this 2023 Cricket World Cup, we finally have one game left that will see a new Champion being crowned on Sunday. India is set to battle with Australia for an overall winner of the tournament. India managed to go past New Zealand in the first semi-final on Wednesday and Aussies sneaked past South Africa in a nail-biting encounter.
India
India has been a team to beat in the ongoing ICC Cricket World on home soil. In the 10 games, India has managed to win all its games in front of the home crowd. That sends a big message now preparing to play the final on Sunday against Australia. It no doubt they will enter the match as the big favorite to clinch the title. The history beckons as the last time they won a trophy was back in 2011 in front of their supporters. Even this time would require a big performance to dispatch them. Heading to the tournament, Virat ” King” Kohli, one of the best batsman of all time, was struggling a bit with the form but ended up becoming a key member.
The maturity Kohli has shown with the bat has seen him become a run-go-getter with the 711 under his name. He has gone on to post a record 50th ODI century eclipsing the previous record by Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has a chance of going past the World Cup most runs in the single tournament of 735 held by Tendulkar. For him, this tournament matters most in different ways and the form he has shown is a testament to that. Nevertheless, though, India has been incredible in all departments as Rohit Sharma has contributed largely with the bat too snatching over 500 runs. In the bowling point of view, Indians have been dangerous with Mohamed Shami leading the pace with 23 wickets so far in just six matches.
Jasprit Brumah has 18 wickets under his name and experienced Ravindra Jadeja has 16. That balance inside the camp indicates the team is in great shape. If they can keep the momentum going will be dangerous to keep the title at home.
Australia
It is fair to say, that Australia has managed to put themselves together to go all the way. At times, there have been some concerns inside their team with Steve Smith not fully fit in the entire tournament. But the nation with experience of reaching this tournament, remained calm to book a final for the first time in eight years. The last time they reached the final was when they co, -hosted alongside New Zealand and came victorious.
This is going to be the eighth time the Aussies have reached the final and there is no side that has managed to do that in the history of the game. In a match against South Africa, they managed to overcome the nerves despite chasing a mere 212 runs and claimed 3 wickets victory. That win was more important as from 2016 against the same opponent have only registered 5 victories in 22 outings against Proteas. This is going to be the second time that Australia has faced India in the World Cup final since 2003 (and Australia managed to come up on top). No side has faced each other twice in the final besides Sri Lanka versus Australia, (in 1996 and 2007).
