Three Blockbuster Boxing Fights We Could See In 2025

After a banging 2024, boxing fans could be in for an even bigger 2025, writes Quintin van Jaarsveld as he lists three blockbuster bouts we could see this year.

After Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, as well as Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, faced off last year, fans are hoping to see more fights between the best of the best in 2025.

With the rise of Riyadh Season, blockbusters are now more possible than ever before and none will please fans more than these three epics:

Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford

One of the all-time greats, Alvarez has long been at the point of his career where he can choose who he faces. Many will say he’s earned the right to do so, and he’s certainly not the first ageing legend to wield his power in such a manner.

That said, as he’s the unified super middleweight champion, fans want to see him face real competition, like Crawford and David Benavidez, not uninspiring contenders like Jaime Munguia and Edgar Berlanga whom he brushed aside last year.

Undefeated Crawford, the consensus pound-for-pound king, became a four-weight world champion when he beat Israil Madrimov for the WBA junior middleweight title in his first fight at 154 pounds last August.

The brilliant “Bud” has expressed his willingness to make the move all the way up to 168 pounds to challenge Alvarez, so the ball is in the Mexican maestro’s court.

Naoya Inoue vs Jesse Rodriguez

A champion in four weight classes from 108 to 122 pounds, Inoue is a diminutive destroyer with a perfect record of 28-0 with 25 knockouts.

“Monster” shouldn’t have much problems getting past Ye Joon Kim on January 24, after which the window is open for him and Rodriguez to go to war.

The hottest thing in American boxing, “Bam” is unbeaten in his 21-fight professional career with 14 knockouts and rules Inoue’s former division at 115 pounds.

Eager to move up to 122 pounds to challenge Inoue, he has the power and skill to slug it out with the Japanese ace.

Oleksandr Usyk v Moses Itauma

Timing is everything in boxing, as it is in life, and a record set nearly 40 years ago could be broken if this bout is put together.

Mike Tyson famously became the youngest-ever heavyweight champion when he knocked out Trevor Berbick at the age of 20 years, 4 months and 23 days in November 1986. Itauma turned 20 on December 28 and could eclipse Tyson’s mark if he were to win a heavyweight belt by May 20.

His first-round stoppage win over Demsey McKean on the Usyk-Fury 2 undercard in December moved him to 11-0 with nine knockouts and maintained his top-10 contender status with the WBA and WBO.

Given Usyk’s 5-0 record against Fury, Joshua and Dubois, and the fact that Dubois has a title defence against Joseph Parker lined up on February 22, it makes all the sense in the world to give the rising star with a shot at history the next crack against generational great Usyk.
