TENNIS BETTING – UNDERSTANDING THE MARKETS
Tennis is one of the most popular sports to bet on. There are a number of reasons for this, but it can be daunting to the new punter.
The sheer volume of tennis going on around the world means there’s normally a game of tennis on somewhere in the world at just about any time of day or night. At BET.co.za we offer markets on hundreds of thousands of tennis matches every month. From right up top on the ATP and WTA tours down to the minor tours, there’s a tennis match ready and waiting for you.
Let’s break down a few of the tennis betting markets and discuss some simple betting strategies to get you started.
The most straight-forward bet you can have on tennis is the match winner bet. Quite simply, what it says on the box. You pick your winner and sit back until the result is known.
Often the favourites will come in at a short price so you might want to find two or three matches to put into a multiple and drive up your odds.
If you don’t have the patience to wait for the entire game to play out, you can have a bet on who will win the first set. Obviously this market is a bit more volatile than the outright match market and you will often find better odds on the favourite to win the first or second set than to win the match.
If you’re even more confident you can look to strike a first set correct score bet. This is for the more experienced tennis punter as you’ll want to consider how often a player is broken or breaks serve and their comparitive strengths. Get this one right, though, and you’ll be smiling.
If you fancy a player to win in straight sets, you might pick his/her opponent not to win a set. If you are expecting a closer game you might look to pick up the underdog to win a set.
The double result is the combination of winning the first set and then going on to win the game. Again, you might find better odds than a simple match-winner bet, but be careful as you’re dependent on two results to win this bet.
Here you bet on the total games in either the match or the set. Again you need to consider how many sets you think will be played and how one-sided they might be.
These are just a small section of what’s available to bet on pre-match in our tennis offering. You can also have a bet Live in-play on all our tennis matches. This is popular method of betting as it gives you a chance to watch the game, assess the players and predict the future.
