PSL Betting Trends: 2019/2020

A crucial aspect of building one’s bankroll is spotting profitable trends when the time is right and knowing when to jump on and off certain teams. In an updated version of our previous PSL betting trends piece, we share some crucial observations from recent matches.

The Buccaneers' away day blues

Orlando Pirates have lost four of their six away league games this season, while their only win on the road came courtesy of dubious officiating against Highlands Park.

Even so, Pirates are priced at 0.85 to win away to Baroka on Saturday, 7 December. Baroka, in turn, are paying 3.25 for the win with a draw at 2.10.

The odds being skewed in Orlando Pirates’ favour is likely because as one of the most popular teams in the country, bettors tend to lean towards victories for them.

However, many may not be aware of Pirates’ dismal away record this season.

This suggests that when the Buccaneers play away from home, the value may often be with the opponents — at least until Rhulani Mokwena’s men begin firing on all cylinders again.

Polokwane City sinking to new lows

Extra time included, Polokwane City have lost seven games on the trot. Nevertheless, Bloemfontein Celtic are paying 2.20 to win at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on 30 November and Maritzburg United 1.90 to beat Polokwane on 8 December.

The club has yet to find a permanent successor to the recently departed Zlatko Krmpotić, with Bernard Molekwa still in temporary charge of the team.

Rise and Shine have been leaking goals of late — 10 in their last three away matches to be precise. Charlton Mashumba is in good form upfront, but this has not been able to mask their defensive difficulties.

While there is still value on Polokwane City’s opponents, it might be worth jumping on this train — if you haven’t already.

Cape Town City the BTTS specialists

Nine of Cape Town City’s last 11 matches have seen goals at both ends. Even so, Both Teams To Score (BTTS) is paying 1.10 for their match against Highlands Park on 30 November.

Jan Olde Riekerink may have drawn his first game in charge 0-0, but recent history suggests he is an offensive coach and City will likely treat us to many more goal feasts before the season is done.
