US OPEN BETTING – BANKING ON BROOKS

US OPEN 2019 BETTING TIPS

At the 2019 U.S. Open, which starts on Thursday, Brooks Koepka heads to the Pebble Beach Golf Links as the world’s number. 1 player after winning his fourth major at the 2019 PGA Championship just last month.

Golf is in a good place. Brooks Koepka is chasing his fifth Major – all within a 24 month period. Tiger Woods is back (and winning again). DJ, Rory and the rest are bubbling with form. Even Jordan Spieth is back with his best stuff.

Looking through South African tinted glasses, you could say the only thing missing is a strong contender from the Rainbow Nation.

Now, we head to the iconic Pebble Beach for the year’s Major as the world watches on to see whether Koepka can go for three in a row. Not since Tiger Woods, who won a US Open here back in 2000 and by some 15 shots, has the game seen such dominance in the elite events.

If anyone is going to win this by 15 shots, you’d have to be backing Brooks.

Phil Mickelson? Probably not your No 1 favourite but he’s a Pebble specialist with a record five wins at the venue including at this year’s AT&T Pro-Am. His story is made more complicated by the fact that he’s chasing his first national championship and the one that will see him lifted into golfing immortality as just the sixth player to own all four Majors.

His erratic play off the tee is negated on this track as it can be mastered with metal woods from the box. At 51-1, that’s some serious value on a player who’s made a name on winning when it matters and knowing when not to quit.

BET: Phil Mickelson 45.00

On a similar thread, looking down the list of past Pebble winners two names stand out. Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson. The former is playing his way back into form and won the PGA TOUR event in 2017 while Johnson remains at the top of his game. He arrives with a runner-up at 2018 and again in 2014. You have to go back to 2010 for the second of his Pebble victories but still, that’s some tremendous
course history.

BET: Jordan Spieth 19.00

Beyond Spieth at 19-1 and DJ at 9.5-1, the field is spread wide. England’s Matt Wallace will attract many pounds at 97-1 while his countryman Tyrrell Hatton must be seen in a new light at 154-1.

BET: Dustin Johnson 9.50

Looking behind the favourites and there is some value out there. Tony Finau, who featured in the final group at Augusta, is out at 42.00 with Paul Casey at 51.00. They couldn’t be more different characters; one a big, boomer on the lookout for his big win while the other is a tour veteran coming into something of a purple patch late in his career.
