THE MET 2019 – CHOOSE YOUR CHAMPION

The 2019 edition of the Met takes place at Kenilworth on Saturday. The 9th race on the card will see 13 horses go to post, but who will win this prestigious feature?

Do It Again is the short-priced favourite heading into the race after winning the 2018 Durban July and the 2019 Queen’s Plate. The Justin Snaith trained four-year-old certainly has everything going in his favour, but for punters the short price could prove prohibitive.

So we’re opening it up to our customers and asking you who you think could be the horse to topple Do It Again and race off with the title of 2019 Met winner. What’s more, we’re going to double the odds of the winner of this poll. That’s right – you have until Friday to vote and then you’ll have 24 hours to have a punt on the People’s Champion. What’s not to like?

Trainer: Eric Sands

Jockey: Anton Marcus

The four-year-old son of Ideal World won his first five races in impressive fashion. Not disgraced in the Green Point Stakes when finishing fourth in a blanket finish and then third in the Queen’s Plate after losing a length at the start. Bred to relish the distance, but will need to run a cracking race under the guidance of legendary jockey Anton Marcus.

Trainer: Justin Snaith

Jockey: Bernard Fayd’Herbe

The 2018 Met Champion is back to defend her title. The only filly in the field is taking on the boys and will have to win with 5.5kgs more weight than she did last year. Showed incredible tenacity in beating Lady in Black on Queen’s Plate day and will be primed for the big day.

Trainer: Willem Nel

Jockey: Keagan de Melo

This versatile son of Querari loves winning races and isn’t bothered about the distance. Has won six of his last seven starts and will have plenty of followers on Saturday. A difficult draw to overcome and doesn’t have one of the top jockeys employed, but at attractive odds is one to include.

Trainer: Sean Tarry

Jockey: Lyle Hewitson

The eight-year-old South African Horse of the Year is a special animal. Trainer Sean Tarry has said that he wasn’t quite on his game on Queen’s Plate Day, but The Eagle isn’t here to make up the numbers and desperately wants to add a Met title to his incredible resume.

We’ll be doubling the odds on the horse that gets the most votes and it will be available on BET.co.za from 12pm on Friday afternoon through to the start of the race!
